The renovation of the Design & Technology Room at Pui Ching Middle School transforms an outdated space into a dynamic, future-ready learning environment. Guided by the brief to integrate new equipment while maximizing functionality, our design prioritizes a streamlined aesthetic and intuitive spatial organization. The room is zoned into three key areas—Learning, Innovation, and Craftsmen—each aligned with the educational pathway to foster creativity, collaboration, and technical skill development. This zoning ensures a seamless flow, guiding students through distinct yet interconnected stages of ideation and production.
To enhance usability, we incorporated a sophisticated lighting design that adapts to various activities, creating an inspiring atmosphere while ensuring practicality. Directional floor signage complements this by providing clear navigation, reinforcing the streamlined experience. Storage is optimized through custom solutions that keep equipment accessible yet unobtrusive, maintaining a clutter-free environment. The flexible table arrangement, featuring dual-height tables, is a standout feature. Lower tables can be nested under higher ones, freeing up central space for competitions or collaborative projects requiring open floor areas.
Sustainability and adaptability were central to our approach, with durable materials and modular elements ensuring longevity and versatility. The design not only meets the practical demands of housing advanced equipment but also elevates the learning experience by creating an engaging, organized, and inspiring space. This renovation reflects a harmonious blend of form and function, aligning with the school’s vision of nurturing innovative thinkers and skilled craftsmen. Our design sets a new standard for educational spaces, balancing aesthetics, technology integration, and user-centric functionality to empower students and educators alike.
