The Knot of Harmony is a string-based festive installation designed for Lunar New Year in a high-end Hong Kong shopping mall, the Pacific Place, transforming five spaces—atriums, passage and outdoor deck —into an interactive play environments. Inspired by Chinese knotting, a symbol of luck and unity, the modular play equipment uses strings to create dynamic, touchable screens and nets, fostering joy and connection for customers, residents, and tourists. Optimized via Grasshopper for scale and form of the installation, spacing and color of strings, the prototype adapts to diverse scenarios, with features like motion-sensitive lighting and knot-tying workshops enhancing engagement. This design celebrates cultural heritage while pioneering versatile, playful festive spaces.
